Easiest skirt ever

I made a skirt for Brooke.  If I had ten uninterrupted minutes to sew it, I'd tell you that's how long it took.  Since I have four children, I don't have ten uninterrupted minutes, so it took more like thirty. 

I used this ruffle fabric, and knit elastic.  In a perfect world I would have used purple thread, then my wonky lines wouldn't be so noticeable.  But it's not a perfect world, it's a world where all my thread is in storage and I happened to have this yellow from a sewing project I did for church.  Brooke thought it was cool though, she put it on and said, "I love it!! It's like a Santa belt!"  She's the eternal optimist.  Obviously that seam goes in the back, but whatev. 

And here she is with her best pose.  Future model for sure.  

PS. I have no idea why she felt the need to tuck her shirt in, she's got a style all her own. :)

Very Last Minute Teacher Gift

The morning of Mason's last day of school I realized that his teacher should probably have a gift.  Whoops!! I blame my pregnancy brain.  

I had seen cute mug rugs over on Smashed Peas and Carrots here and here.  Her tutorial on how to sew bias tape was VERY helpful.  I have done a few bias tape projects before, but this one turned out the best by far.  I even made the bias tape cause I had no time to drive to town and get it.  A shower had to be taken before I went to Mason's party at school.

I adjusted the dimensions down just a bit, I think mine ended up being 9x5ish.  I was really pleased with how it turned out.  Luckily his teacher loved it too.  Should probably make a stash of these to have on hand for last minute gifts.  I know I want one for myself.

Recently finished this custom for an old friend from high school. 

I know I haven't posted much sewing lately, but I am keeping busy.  I blame it on the fact that summer is in full swing and we are BUSY (less time to organize and write a blog post).  I will have several more customs to post in the next few days so stay tuned.  AND, I am working on a post about all our Fourth of July festivities, better late than never. Right? Right.

Big Bro Appliqued Shirt

Confession:  I had to rip off the pocket of this tee.  It's Garanimals from The Mart, and had a pocket on it.  I couldn't figure out how to deal w/ it design wise, so I ripped off the pocket.  Ah!  Pocket-less tee, much easier to work with.

And if anyone would like to fund the purchase of a Silhouette for me so I don't have to hand cut-out letters that'd be great. M' Kay, thanks ;)

A Whole Girly Gift Set

This set has been done awhile, but I'm just now getting pics edited and posted to show.  Life has been a little chaotic lately, but now that it's summer hopefully things will slow down a bit.  YEAH RIGHT!!  

My SIL had me do a whole girly gift set for a friend that just gave birth.  I love this fabric!!  I don't love that Hobby Lobby doesn't have their prints named.  What do I call this??  Since the little girl's name is Lillian, these prints will be named after her.

Batman Tie for My Graduate

First off a few pics of Mason at his preschool graduation.  The idea of preschool graduation is kinda ridiculous in my mind, but none the less, we went and clapped for Mason as he walked the stage and I took lots of pictures.  I'm only sharing two cause the first one depicts the attitude he had the entire ceremony, the second one shows the instant change once he took off the cap and gown.

Ended up like this.  He's so ornery!  

Now on to the real show, his Batman tie.

Spear-yielding Super Grad.  Boys....need I say more.  I made this out of fabric I got at Mary Jo's while on a trip to North Carolina w/ my momma in April.  Wish I would have got more of it, but I think I'll still be able to make a bag for him out of the rest. 

There's my handsome boy!! Hard to believe he's gonna be six in September, time goes by WAY too quick.  

My good friend Jen is doing another Adoption Auction to raise funds so they can bring home their child(ren) from Ethiopia.  Last time around I donated a camera strap cover, this time its a patriotic tie for your little man.  Go and bless them by bidding high for this or any of the other 100 items she's got.  She has a note that the fabric may be different, this is because we lost our Joann's to the EF5 tornado that ripped through town on May 22.  Pray for Joplin, devastation is far-reaching and really even more jaw dropping in person.

Big Boy Cap {tutorial}

Summer is (almost) here!!  So that means we'll be spending lots of time outside.  And you gotta protect that little sweet head from the sun, so caps are a MUST.
This cap started out as a babyish hand me down that was given to me.

The frog was begging to be covered up with something a little bit "cooler" for Mr. Lincoln.
Here's what I did

 1. Start by grabbing a cup to use as a template for your circle.  Make sure it is large enough to cover up the old design.
2. Trace and cut your circle out of knit (old t-shirt bound for Goodwill).
3. Check size, I decided this was a bit too large, so I trimmed it down a little.

4. With Double sided Steam-a-Seam draw your design on front side of the paper.  Remember if you are doing a letter to draw the mirror image. Peel off back side of paper and stick to knit.  Cut out.
5. Peel off paper backing, make sure you leave on the webbing.
6. Position on circle, iron in place.  You can either leave as is or do a decorative stitch around design.
(Need help w/ Steam-a-Seam let me know.  You could also use Heat n Bond for this step)

7. Place Steam-a-Seam on back side of circle, peel off paper backing leaving webbing. 

8. Position on cap, iron in place.  Again, you could leave it as is, or sew a decorative stitch around design.   I chose to do a zigzag. 

And DONE!!  Have the best baby ever model his new big boy cap.

Show and Tell at Blue Cricket Designs

Thanks a Latte {teacher appreciation gift}

I whipped these up for Mason's preschool teachers on Friday morning.  Yeah, I'm lame, and waited till the last possible day to put something together for them.  These coffee cup sleeves are a great stash buster project, and go together VERY quick.  I just traced a Starbucks sleeve, cut out 1/4 to 3/8 inch outside of trace lines.  Then sewed straight on my trace lines.  Turn and top-stitch, then add the snaps.  

Easy Peasy!! 

I lined with Insul-Bright, but I think next time I'll just use micro fleece or maybe even felt.

Chartreuse {my favorite green}

After Orange, Chartreuse is probably my favorite color.  I just love it!  In my opinion its the perfect shade of green.  As Fancy Nancy would say 'chartreuse is fancy for yellow-green.'  I found this chartreuse print at Hobby the other day and had to have it.  

Chartreuse + Mocha = Marriage made in heaven.

I'm thinking a new camera strap is in order for me.  I've also got a new skirt for Brooke in mind for this fabric.  Oh yeah, and some kind of teacher appreciation gift for Mason's teacher.  I'm sure just like any other fabric does after a while, it will lose its luster.  But for now, I'm in love.

More Diaper Cases for Baby City

I keep busy sewing diaper cases for Baby City (the nursery at my church).  Right now there is a slew of boy babies, I'm sure there will be a flood of girls next round. 

Red, White & Blue Tie {4th of July is coming}

You know, 4th of July is only about two and half months away (doesn't seem possible).  I LOVE red, white & blue for summertime.  While at Joann's getting some other essentials I saw this fabric and had to have.  I made this for a friend who just had her first baby in March.  They are BIG TIME Cubs fans.  I thought he could be a fancy Cubs fan :)  I've got a Lincoln size and Mason size tie on my sewing list.

The Many Faces of Mason {featuring a gentleman's tie}

Mason is such a goof (and grouch sometimes) as you can see.  He's also one handsome fella and I'm proud he's mine. 

 He was super excited for his new tie I made him.  Sometimes I make things for him, and his response is less than enthusiastic, I was happy to hear that even around others he thought his new tie was "awesome."  My friend was helping in Kids Kountry (the pre-K & K class at our church) she said the boys were playing outside and had this conversation. 

Mason,"hey guys, check out my new tie. Isn't it awesome?!" Caleb said, "cool!" Josiah said, "Did your mom make it? It's sweet!" 

They are buddies!!

I'm making him and Lincoln some to wear for Easter.  And Mason is also gonna get a Batman one, I found Batman fabric at Mary Jo's when I went to NC a few weeks ago.  Pretty sure he's going to be the envy of all his friends.

Diaper Case w/ an alternate purpose

A friend of mine wanted a bible cover.  Specifically she wanted something that she could slide her bible into while it was in her purse.  Something to protect the pages from getting all crinkled.  I tried one of my diaper cases on it and it fit perfectly.  So I whipped this up for her.

   

Diaper Bag, Burpies, an Apron & {GIVEAWAY}

I'm gonna play catch up post several recent projects in one post just to make it easy on myself. :)

First off this cute diaper bag.

A TRUE custom!  Rosie found a bag she liked the design of and asked if I could make one for her.  She picked out her fabric (which I LOVE) and I got to work. 

  The ends feature snap tops and a lined pocket for stuff.  Cause we all know when you've got a baby you carry lots of  "stuff."  And Rosie has a new baby girl and a toddler, so she needs room for stuff.

Interior features four lined pockets (more room to organize stuff) and magnetic closure.

I love customs because customers can truly get what THEY want and need. 

I made this burp cloth set for good friend from college who is having a miracle baby.  She was in town for a surprise shower.  Aren't those the best? You should have seen her face!

Big burper and mini burper with super squishy and absorbent bamboo/cotton batting core.

Perfect for catching lots of newborn spit up.  Might as well be stylish while on mom duty.  

This apron was for a friend's little girl who turned 3.  My friend is uber-talented and artsy and just started teaching at our local art center.  They had an art birthday party.  Her daughter picked out the fabric (and did an AMAZING job!)  She chose to have the body of the apron done in home decorator weight.
