T is for Tools and a PSA

Finished up The Monster's tote.
T is for tools
Although please excuse the brown thread where the straps are attached.  I need some more bobbins and some tan thread ;)

PSA:  Thanks for the few comments I have received.  But I must confess I am just now seeing them.  I didn't have the blog set up to email me when new comments came in.  So I didn't have any idea that I had received some till a df told me she had posted something.  Anyways, problem solved now and keep 'em coming.

Halloween Projects

I'm trying to get the kids costumes ready for Halloween.  I decided that The Monster is going to be a construction worker/tool man, we've got basically everything we need for this, so that's the main reason I chose it.  Cost wise it's going to be fairly cheap for me to complete.  So anyways, I dyed this shirt last month (maybe even back in August) and it's just been sitting there.  Perfect opportunity to jazz it up a bit with some embroidery and appliqué.  I don't know if you can tell but the print actually has tools on it.

It was my first time embroidering on a shirt so it ended up lower than I wanted, but it works, and The Monster likes it, so it's all good.  To go along with our Tool Man, Little Miss is going to be a Tool Girl.  I need to get a hold of another hard hat that someone won't mind me painting pink.  I mean, doesn't every girl need a pink hard hat? ;)  We did go to Joann's after MOPS today and picked up the fabric to make there tool belts.  So I need to get working on those.

This is the little tote bag I finished up for Little Miss.  I had this muslin lying (would it be lying or laying?)around, I picked it up out of the remnant bin at JAs.  The kids needed tote bags for candy and I decided to make something that wasn't fall/halloween exclusive.  That way they can use them year round, Little Miss especially.  She loves her new purse.  Here's the back.

I'm working on Monster's and hope to finish it tonight.  Pics to follow.

Catching up

I haven't blogged in a while, here's my opportunity to catch you up on what I've been doing.  I actually did a fall craft to decorate my house.  That's one thing that is really missing in my house, decorations.  Being on a small budget that's one of the things that we never really have money for.  There aren't any plants in my house, just a handful of wall hangings and pictures, only one room with curtains, I could go on and on, but you get the picture. Anyways, I made these cute little metallic pumpkins.  I was inspired by Centsational Girl (once again).  But obviously downsized it to be a centerpiece.

She used some fancy paint, I used craft metallic gold craft paint from Walmart.  It was $1.27, the pumpkins were 78 cents each and I had foam brushes on hand.  So all-in-all it only cost me less than $4.  Not to shabby.  I have them grouped with my new wood wick candle that smells so yummy.
I've also got some sewing done lately.  My neighbor and good friend just had her baby (the one I made the nursing pads and diaper for).  She had a boy, Gibson, and he is so SWEET!!  So she and her hubby both wanted slings, she picked out the fabric and I went to town.  I got these both done in an afternoon, wow.

I also got to make a friend a shirt for her little boy who turned 2.  She provided the shirt and the fabric, I've got two more to do for her other little ones.

And I have done some sewing for my kiddos too.  I did a set of rag quilt numbers to go along with The Monster's letters set. No pics yet, but I'll get on it.
And here's an action shot of Little Miss's pumpkin clippie.  She got all decked out last week for MOPS.  Can you see her baby leg warmers?  I made those last year, found the socks at Target.  Oh how I LOVE Target!

Hope you feel up to date now. :)

Just in time for Fall

A pumpkin felt clip.  I'm going to make some of these for my girlfriends that came to bow night a couple of weekends ago.  It was my first time hand stitching like this.  I need to work on making the stitches more uniform, but for a first it turned out great.

Rag Quilt Letters

I found this great tutorial over at Happy Together.  The Monster loves them!  We're really working on his letters and these are a great help.  They're also great cause we talk about which ones are match, which are similar, I can help him find certain letters by telling him to look for one with an apple on it, etc.  I want to make a set of lowercase letters and numbers too.  All done with scrap fabrics, micro-fleece sandwiched inside to make them squishy.

All cut out, this in itself, took awhile. :)

Ready to be traced

Yes, if you look closely you will see the F is backwards.  Oops.  I traced it on the back side cause I it was going to be hard see sewing.  What I forgot to do was flip it, my bad.  And the Monster insists that it be that way instead of laying out the F the correct way.  Maybe he's got a touch of OCD.
